Built to power. Made to savour.

Monacraft brings a Cypriot family group’s two businesses to the UK: high-voltage energy engineering, and Turkish coffee roasted to a recipe first made in 1916.

One family, two crafts. The family has roasted coffee in Nicosia and Kyrenia since 1916, and has built the electricity network of Northern Cyprus since 1982. Monacraft is where both businesses meet the UK market.

Food & Beverage

Girne Con Kahve

Girne Con roasts and grinds Turkish coffee in Kyrenia to a family recipe, packed in bags and tins from 100 g to 500 g. For the UK we supply wholesale, retail and hospitality.

The name on the packet is an English one.

In 1916 Hüseyin Remzi began roasting beans shipped from Istanbul, landed by rowing boat at Kyrenia harbour and carried to Nicosia by horse and cart. He roasted them in converted barrels over a wood fire.

His son Mehmet Hüseyin took over in 1951. People called him Con, because he looked English, and the coffee has carried his nickname ever since.

Two businesses, one family, and the same harbour town of Kyrenia at the start of both.

  1. 1916

Hüseyin Remzi starts roasting coffee in Nicosia.

  2. 1930s

Packed, ready-ground coffee reaches the coffee houses of Nicosia and its villages.

  3. 1951

Mehmet Hüseyin Con takes over and gives the brand its name.

  4. 1950s

Kıymet and Mustafa Şadi carry the craft to Kyrenia: Girne Con Kahve.

  5. 1982

Kıymet starts in Kyrenia in telecoms, then moves into energy.

  6. Today

Monacraft Ltd represents both businesses in the UK.
